Is there something you really want to achieve/do/have? Yet do you find yourself waiting “until”?
- Until you get the money
- Until you lose the weight
- Until you get a different job
- Until your house sells
- Until your kids move out
- Until someday far off in the future…
Just like that saying “tomorrow never comes”…one thing I know for sure is that “until” almost never comes either.
Waiting is a decision to stay where you are
Putting off action that is inline with what you say is your ultimate goal, until a perceived obstacle can be removed, usually just perpetuates the circumstance you are waiting to change, and the obstacle continues to grow and eventually it can appear insurmountable.
And when an obstacle appears insurmountable, it can be hard to see a way through it, and you end up stuck in the same place, and not taking action towards your goals. You end up in a waiting game, and denying yourself of what you really want.
So for example if you are waiting to “lose the weight” before you book that vacation, you may find you never lose the weight, so you never take that vacation. Or if you wait until your business is making more money before you invest in the help you need to grow, your business likely will not make the money, and you will not grow. Etc
Waiting takes away the urgency
That’s because the urgency is not there for you to remove the obstacle. As human beings, we by nature prefer what’s familiar, even if we don’t like it, than change. If we don’t have a compelling reason to change, we simply don’t take action to change or to get a different result.
But when you make a decision and commit to it, suddenly you have a compelling reason to take action, to change and to make things happen. If you book that vacation, you suddenly have the motive to tighten up your habits, or if you invest help in your business, you now have the motive to get into action and bring in money.
Success follows your decisions, not the other way around
For example, I am hosting an event, and I had a choice between two rooms at the venue, and the one I really wanted was twice as expensive as the other one. And truthfully the cost differential was significant enough that it only made sense to rent the room I really wanted, once I hit certain numbers.
As I waited “until” I made those numbers, I just stayed with the smaller room; I knew that for my event to really be impactful, I needed the bigger room, so even with my low attendance numbers I decided to stop waiting “until”, I made the decision to invest in the bigger room. And guess what – in 3 days I practically sold out.
Why did it fill so quickly after? Because as soon as I made a decision, I had a lot more on the line, and I took action and FAST. I certainly was terrified when I made the decision, and that decision was the catalyst for me achieving what I truly desired.
Make a decision to take action towards your goals
It’s the same for you. When you firmly and wholeheartedly make a decision, to move forward despite any perceived obstacles, no matter how scary it is, you will be amazed at how quickly the obstacle moves out of the way and things fall into place.
