My Personal Story
"When people see my life now, it’s easy to forget that this is not where I started."
I’ll never forget the day — more than 20 years ago — my credit card payment was due. My income that month was only $300, which didn’t even cover my rent. I needed that credit card for food and gas. I HAD to keep my account current and make that payment, but I had no money.
I was terrified and demoralized as I was in survival mode, not even sure I could buy groceries.
To manage, I took out a cash advance on that card and used it to make my minimum payment, and continued to use my card to cover expenses until work started to flow in.
I Knew Deep Down Things Had To Change
Feeling like I hit rock bottom, I made a decision that day, that struggling and survival was no longer an option.
I was motivated to change my life, and I did the only thing I knew how — I went back to school. For 10 years I balanced studying and working full time. While the pace was incredibly challenging, I just kept moving forward towards my goal. After I graduated, I transitioned from working for entrepreneurs and start-ups, to the corporate world and spent the next 10 years climbing to the top of my profession, eventually serving as Vice President in an international mining company.
My ambition and big paycheck came with a price: 14 hour days, and weeks away from my husband working out of town, wearing a persona that wasn’t me in order to stay on top. I needed to make a change. I really missed the early days of my career working with entrepreneurs.
Starting my own coaching business serving entrepreneurs was a natural transition. I passionately dove into studying and learning all I could about the art of coaching, obtaining multiple credentials at a Master Level.
It Was Far From Easy
That first year was awful! I struggled with what seemed like everything — from clarity, to finding clients, to undercharging and working for free, and more — as I watched more money go out than come in.
I kept working harder and harder, and yet nothing seemed to change. I had a solid business background, I knew what I was doing, so why was I still struggling?
Then it hit me, while I had an excellent track record in mentoring, coaching, and building businesses, what I didn’t know how to do was to actually BE an entrepreneur.
I wasn’t emotionally prepared for the risk of business ownership and entrepreneurship. So even though I had big dreams and a big vision for myself, I was playing very small.
It Was Time To Change Who I Was Being
I didn’t want to go back to the corporate world. If I didn’t want to run out of money I knew something had to change, and it was me.
The missing piece for me wasn’t my knowledge, or skills; it was my beliefs and mindset about who I was, about money and success, and what I was capable of in this new identity.
The biggest step I took was to invest in the mentoring I needed to overcome those beliefs and to learn all I could from those who had achieved what I so desired for myself.
As scary as it was at the time to make that investment, it was the best decision I could have made, as I completely transformed the beliefs that were holding me back.
Changing My Story Changed My Life
Once I was confident as an entrepreneur, I lined up a year’s worth of speaking engagements, started enrolling ideal clients one after another, and quickly replaced my corporate income.
My business has continued to grow in leaps and bounds since then. And I’m proud to say, so have the businesses of my clients.
I let go of the long days, the striving, and working hard, instead relaxing into a softer rhythm, allowing me to build my business as a powerful feminine leader and role model, and carve out my days exactly how I want them.
As a bonus, I still travel frequently, but now instead of going with colleagues to board meetings and mining work camps, it’s with my husband, to luxury 5 star resorts, and this time, I enjoy it.
Bringing It All Together
I truly understand that while business has no feelings, running your dream business with you at the heart of it is deeply emotional.
I bring to you both my expertise in business and coaching, along with the first-hand experience of having walked the same path that while exhilarating and fulfilling, can at times also be tumultuous.
But what I know for sure, success comes when we can look at both halves of your business with clarity and honesty — the practical strategies, and the heart and soul.
You just need to have a look at the results of my clients to realize that whatever it is you really want, with the right support, you can make happen.
My Silent Partner
Yes I work with my gorgeous husband Michael, an expert in audio and video production!
He owns his own A/V sales company, that together we built from nothing, and the busines recently surpassed mid 7 figures in sales.
Learning to navigate the unique dynamics of romantic partnership, business and money is what has allowed each of us to thrive in a fully supportive and profitable partnership. He is the sounding board for me in my business strategy, an expert in sales, and also the creative genius behind most of my video production.
On A Personal Note
My countryside dream home is just outside of Vancouver, BC. I have one amazing horse and 2 small pugs. I am a total foodie, I LOVE the art of the cocktail, and I admit that I have an unnatural love of butter. I am energized by the thrill and energy and power of a hard work out, and do so regularly.
I also am known for my cowboy boot and high heel collection. I lived part-time in Alaska from 2007 to 2011, it was one of my most cherished memories.
My passions are my animals, friends, luxurious life experiences, and traveling to Arizona with my husband — and when I am not traveling, I love to curl up with a good book at home, in front of the fire, or scoot around our lake on the family boat. And did I mention champagne?
