Do you ever wonder how you can stand out in what can sometimes feel like a crowded market?
Have you ever been to a networking event and as you introduce yourself, you realize that there are three people at your table who do exactly what you do, and as you look around the room, you wonder “how many more?” and you feel so deflated and wonder if you should just go home?
Or what about “HER”…that entrepreneur who does a similar thing. You know “her” services just don’t compare at all to what you have to offer, and yet, she just attracts, client, after client, after client.
This competition you experience in these situations is real and when you are in business building mode, it can literally kill your business.
So, how do you rise above it?
It is not easy, and it takes a lot of courage. Because what you are really competing with is your own mindset, your fears and your doubts. When these or similar situations as described above happen, while they may feel real, what you are experiencing is a reflection of your deepest insecurities. Your business cannot compete with your doubts.
When you get caught up in what other people are doing, it becomes easy to forget what you are doing, and even sometimes why you are doing it. And when you are in that frame of mind it becomes difficult to move forward.
Faith and Fear cannot live in the same space.
Neither can trust and envy. You need to choose which one will occupy the space in your heart and mind.
While two businesses may appear similar on the outside, what they truly do, and the experiences they provide their clients are as unique as the business owner. They will not attract the same clients.
One House 2 Looks
Indulge me here for a moment….Imagine 2 houses are for sale on the same street, they have the same floor plan, price and lot size. On the surface it may look like they are competing with each other.
On the inside one of these homes has modern finishes with a lot of steel, stone and glass, removed the tub from the main bathroom in favor of a steam shower, no grass area in the yard, and basically nothing family friendly about it. And the second home has warm finishes, carpets, a yard with sandboxes, and a huge child’s playroom in the basement.
Are these homes truly competing with each other? If a young family sees both, which home will they buy? Did the family friendly home influence the family’s decision NOT to buy the modern home? Or would the decision not to buy the modern home be the same even without the family friendly home next door?
It’s The Same For Your Business
You are uniquely you, and only you can provide what you do. If a client is attracted and a fit for a different business, just like that family that would not be comfortable in that modern home – no matter how much they like it – neither will a non-ideal client be a “fit” for you.
So how can you release the fear, jealousy and doubt that are competing in your mind for faith, belief and action?
