When You’re Broke, You Cut Back On EVERYTHING Right? – WRONG.
This is a bit of an unusual episode for me, because I’m getting really personal.
I’m sharing details about my story, because I think it’s so easy when we see someone else’s success, to dismiss our own potential, and think “It can’t happen for me”.
That’s why in our episode today, I’m taking you back about 25 years, to when I was the most broke I’ve ever been in my life. I couldn’t pay my rent, I was living off credit cards, I had no idea where my next dollar was coming from.
Back then I could also have chosen to believe that success was just not for me, and that this was my life. But instead I chose a lot of things that other people thought were “irresponsible” – such as continuing my daily stop at Starbucks.
What You Focus on is What You Get More Of
I never once bought into the cliché that you need to stop buying a cup of coffee in order to improve your finances. I mean seriously, sure you may save a few hundred bucks here and there, but if that’s where your focus is, it’s in the WRONG place.
When you focus on scrimping and saving you just get more of it, and you create a mindset and belief that this is your life. When you focus on creating the life you want, well – guess what you get.
Now, I want to be clear, sometimes life does require you to make some adjustments, but as I explain in our episode today, sometimes you have to put your stake in the sand for your non-negotiables.
Every choice you make, either gets you closer to your goal or further away from it.
There were a lot of choices I could have made back then, the “sensible ones” based in fear and based in believing that I’d reached my full potential and would go no further. Instead I chose me. I chose what I knew I was capable of, I chose my untapped potential, and not what I was currently living.
It can be scary, and go against everyone else’s “logic” or advice. But in the end, only you have to – and get to – live your life. When you do, it will create a mindset of success and build your resiliency in ways you didn’t know was possible.
I hope today’s episode inspires you to also treat yourself as THE most important person in your life, and to make the decisions that work for you, and that get you on the path to creating the life you want to live.
That’s what Living Forward is all about!
